The African Darter – Anhinga rufa – is a large Tropical water species of Type – waterbird, Family Anhingidae and Order Suliformes. Members are found in Tropical countries world wide, but the one relevant to the AWB Region is the African darter which is found in large wetlands in s s Africa, the Horn of Africa, Madagascar and the Iraq/Iran marshes. Similar to cormorants it has the habit of standing near the water’s edge with its wings outstretched to dry them.

Type - waterbird - nest built of sticks in a tree, 
Breeding Habitat - suitably large stretches of calm water, with enough fishes to sustain it,
