The Oriental turtle-dove – Streptopelia orientalis is a species of the family Columbidae, and the Order Columbiformes. It ranges N-S across Central to Southern Asia and from Uzbekistan to Japan latitudinally. In the AWB Region it is not generally present except for some birds on passage in NE Iran.

The European turtle-dove – Streptopelia turtur is a migratory species of the family Columbidae, and the Order Columbiformes. It is an extensive summer breeder across the W Palearctic Region. In the AWB Region it is a summer breeder across all the N African states, the Nile Valley, the Levant, Cyprus and Turkey. It is also a summer breeder in the S Caucasus, N Syria, N and E Iraq, the S Arabian Gulf, most of Iran except the far South, N UAE and N Oman. The birds winter in a broad band across all the Sahel states.

The Common wood-pigeon – Columba palumbus is a large member of the Columbidae family. It is widespread across W Eurasia. In the AWB Region it is thinly dispersed across suitable habitats. It is a summer breeder across N Turkey, the S Caucasus, N Iraq, and N & W Iran down to Kuwait. There are resident populations across the Maghreb states, Turkey, Cyprus, The central valleys of Iraq, and small isolated areas in The Hormuz Straights and N Oman. The main wintering areas are in The Maghreb states, and the Aegean, Bosphorus and Levant coastal regions.

The Great crested grebe – Podiceps cristatus is the largest of the Old World Grebe, which are a species of Type – waterbird It has a very extensive range over Eurasia, Africa and Australasia. Within the AWB Range it has a breeding population in the Southern Caucasus, further South it becomes either resident or non-breeding. It winters in the Black Sea and along all the coasts of Turkey and the Levant down to the Nile Delta, In the Maghreb states it becomes resident in a few areas, but is supplemented by wintering birds along the coasts. Along the N coasts of the Arabian Gulf it winters in Iraq and Iran.
